Ok. So ive never seen a Potato bug in my life. Then, my family starts growing potatoes. Now, theres millions!!! How the f... Do potato bugs find potatos in the middle of nowhere???? Especially when ive never seen one in my area ever?????? Any input is appreciated.

The same way hornworms find tomatoes and squash bugs find squash. That's what they do.



When you say potato bug I assume you are talking about Colorado Potato Beetle. You can control them with Bt tenebrionis, spinosad, carbaryl (sevin dust), or permethrin. You can find products containing these compounds at any garden center.

The others are correct. They are everywhere, you just don't see a congregation until a host plant is introduced and they breed and multiply. The Colorado Potato Beetle feeds on the leaves and small stems of the potato plant and can destroy your crop if not controlled. The other potato bug/Pill bug/Roly Poly is not the same critter and does not attack live plants. It feeds on decaying plant matter.

Haha well potato bugs are everywhere. They may not make themselves known, but they are everywhere whether it may be under rocks, in the dirt, or hiding in plants. You probably know they are also called rollie pollies.
