Advice please? My Knockout roses look bad this fall?

I planted knockout roses this past spring (5 gallon size) and the leaves on most of them have turned yellow and they look a little anemic. I know leaves may change due to the fall season - but the others in my town are blooming like crazy and are still very green. These others are much more mature plants. Is that the reason they look so good and mine don't? Or should I be concerned?

Thank you!

By the way - I fertilized and pruned them mid-summer as they began to look poor. I also had to spray them with a fungal spray. It really seemed to make a difference - but now they look poor again. They are planted in good mulch and soil and we are in the South.

I live in Massachusetts, BUT no matter where we live, anything planted too deep, or watered too much will have the symptoms that you have given here.

I think too much love is the problem. I truly believe you are over mulching, so burying them too deep, or over watering and leeching all the nutrients away.

Mulch NO deeper than the plant was when it was in its pot.

water no more than once a week, 3 inches deep water and let nature take care of more

This time of year I lightly wrap my roses for protection against wind and sun scald.

I don't do more than that. I think you are just suffering from over protective parent, let the roses go a little wild, they will adapt better,

Mine has the same exact problem. Other knockout roses around town are stil blooming beautifully, but mine is probably looking similar to yours. I planted mine in September, and I think its just trying to establish itself. I wouldnt worry too much, just give it some rose fertilzer when spring comes and hopefully it will come back greener than ever. Sometimes they just need to spend a winter getting ready for spring!

Roses are not the easiest plants to take care of. They need the right amount of sun, water, fertilizer, care to prevent fungus, low humidity, moderate temperatures, correct soil pH.
