It’s difficult to tell from the photo, but it could certainly be Salvia. As others have pointed out, there are several plants that look similar. Bottom line--if you like it, keep it. What a “weed” is depends upon if it’s a plant you want to have around or not. If you like this plant, then it’s not a “weed”. I remember I once let a plant grow that had pretty purple flowers on it and my mother-in-law had a fit because she said it was a weed and I wouldn’t let her pull it. Eventually I learned my lesson about heeding my elder’s advice because the thing took off and became invasive…but at the time it was so pretty I couldn’t bear to pull it.

Nature Hills has a couple varieties of Saliva to choose from: http://www.naturehills.com/salvia-may-night

Salvia is a plant family that comprises HUNDREDS of different plants.

The most common types of salvia are the sages, mostly used in cooking.

Going by the flowers, the plant in your picture LOOKS like a sage plant,

but most likely it will be one someone planted for the flowers or for cooking.

The main reasons it is VERY UNLIKELY this is salvia divinorum is:

1. It ONLY GROWS naturally outdoors in very specific parts of MEXICO, and no where else on Earth.

2. It very rarely flowers.

3. The leaves tend to be very dark green with light green lines for the veins.

Pull a leaf off your plant and rub it , then smell it, if it smells spicy or like pizza/ Spaghetti, then it is a culinary herb.

I've read that salvia divinorum has mostly white flowers with some light purple on them, but I can't tell you for sure if yours are or not. It's not really something to be afraid of, unless it is illegal to grow in your state and there is a high likelihood that the police will be checking in on you.

I have that exact [plant growing along my driveway close to some arborvitae shrubs but I don't know the name. I think it's a weed of some kind, but I like it so I'll keep it.

Actually, the definition of a weed is a perennial that you don't like, while others may purchase it for their gardens! All a matter of opinion.

It does look similiar to pictures of S. hispanica but the leaf edges seem too smooth (not toothed) to be S. divinorum. If you like the look of the plant grow it as a flower but dont try to eat it.

There are LOTS of salvias, I doubt you have the right one. If you don't want it tell your stoner friends, it will disappear.
