If someone says I charge $60 a yard to lay down mulch.... Are they charging $60 for the whole LAWN, or $60 for the cubic YARD? AND- Is "installation charge" the same as "laying down a yard" charge?

For instance, you say: "I charge $60 for each yard installed". Does that mean it's a Installation Fee, added on to labor? [like security systems, ha- you pay for equipment, you pay installation fee, you pay for dude to come out, activation fee, etc]. I walk in the door, I get $60. OR---- is it $60 for every cubic yard that I have to lay down, and thats my final price.
I am so confused about this 'yard' terminology.
Thanks for the clarification.

Summary of questions:
1. Is "$75/yard'': $75 for the whole lawn or $75 for every cubic yard installed?
2. Is 'a charge for installation' an installation fee, or another way to say, "I charge $75/yard...or lawn??".

Thank you!

$60 a yard, mean a cubic yard..

"$60 for each yard installed" sounds like the $60 includes the cost of the mulch, and the labor of spreading it in the beds where you want it to go. It would be a completely outrageous price for labor alone.

1.) $75/yard means per cubic yard, not "whole lawn".

2.) unless I can see what you're reading, it's hard to say. "$xx charge for a cubic yard installed" sounds like the cost of mulch AND labor for spreading. "$xx per yard delivered" means the cost of the mulch, and it will be dumped in a pile on your driveway. If you're confused by whatever ad you're reading, just CALL them and ask for clarification.

When they say "$60 for each yard installed". They mean that they will put down one cubic yard of mulch and you pay a flat charge of $60. That includes the mulch and the labor.

A "yard" measurement of your lawn would mean a flat piece of land, 3 ft by 3 ft square of grass, dirt or flower bed, whatever is the case. (same as measuring for carpet in your house)

Mulch is referred to by the CUBIC yard and one cubic yard is a cube 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft.

If the guy says "mulch is $10 for one cubic yard and installation is $50, then he has separated the cost and you could choose to buy the mulch for $10 and put it down yourself. If he says $60 delivered, then he means he dumps it in your driveway and you spread it where ever you want it.

In my area, Northern Illinois, mulch is about $20 per cubic yard, delivered.

Your question is vague. You gave the width and for got to mention the length of the driveway. If you want the mulch of 1 foot thick from your figure I can say it covers 30-36 square yards. ( Provided drop off mulch is 10-12 cubic yards )

Greetings,

My name is Tom, known as HD 116 at Home Depot's "How to Community" found at the link below;

They are likely referring to the installation price per cubic yard which is an industry standard (as you suspected).

In roofing they refer to a "square" which causes similar problems......

Hope that helps.
