The email going around is suppose to be based on false information. Be safe and only buy mulch that has the inspection seal on it.

I am not sure that there really is mulch from New Orleans right now, but the Formosan Termites DID survive both of the hurricanes and the flooding. Just this week there was another genuine news story concerning nests of these termites which had been submerged in ten feet of water. Some of the termites had died, however, large numbers of them were still alive. Unbelievable, isn't it? I would play it safe and avoid importing problems (ie: mulch) from New Orleans.

No, it another email scam. Even if they were in the wood to begin with they have to get into soil to survive. They would be dead by now.

I have heard on a couple of talk shows that this is an urban legend.
