My Bromeliad's flower is losing it's color. =( It's a Vriesea Splendens (AKA flaming sword) and it's red 'sword' is now turning a dull orange-yellow sort of color. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...Any ideas?

Don't know if this will help, but my Bromeliad's flower went through several phases of color. It started out red, faded to orange, then yellow, pink and then pale green. Then it stopped flowering. I think that they don't flower forever, when the flower goes away, it is gone for quite some time. Depending on the variety, how long is variable, and when they are not flowering, you are supposed to water them in the cup the plant forms where the flower used to be.

Bromies grow, bloom, set pups, then die. The pups (off shoots around the base of the "mother plant") will grow, bloom, set pups, then die. K is correct, water in the funnel created by the leaves.

Bromeliads want diffuse gentle, moisture and organic and organic soil. attempt including some bone meal to the soil, or replant it in a mix of peat moss and perlite (more desirable silica) and upload some rose or azalea food.
