" The store bought cherries are from a few "chance seedlings" out of
thousands of wild and half wild seedlings. They can only be douplicated by
grafting and should be bought from a reliable fruit tree nursery.
Seeds from large high quality cherries produce half wild trees with fruit
1/2 the size but still good quality. Those seeds in turn produce a fully
wild tree with fruits 1/2 the size again, or about 3/8" diam. They are
quite juicy and soft, still having a good taste, but not economical any
more.
So it takes only 2 generations from seeds to revert back to the original
wild stage. "

The high country areas are more apropriate for this kind of tree. Flagstaff for example is a good place for a cherry tree to grow. Also I do know of one huge cherry tree in Flagstaff that is in my brother's backyard.
