How well do the electric ph measuring tools work?

not sure if it is battery powered or how it works , but bought a two metal pronged ph scale measuring tool which was quite inexpensive. and you simply stick the two metal prongs in the ground and it shows on the meter the supposed ph of the soil.

again, not sure how it works.

anyone know?

and is this tool very accurate or not?

btw, also measures if you flip the switch the moisture, as well as something else, not sure.

Thanks for your answers!

test it in tap water , if the reading is 6.2 ph. then it is reasonably accurate

Unfortunately this is a case of "if it sounds to good to be true..." . 2 metal prongs can't tell you the difference between acidic, neutral, or alkaline. That's why you don't see these things sold for fish tanks, because their would be a whole lot of dead fish floating around out there. Have you ever noticed that the moisture side always says the exact same reading, even if the pots are saturated or bone-dry?

You can take soil samples and send them to UMASS for $13! It's the best money you'll ever spend on your garden.

edit***Send it out to be tested, don't bother with home test kits***

It works by measuring the electrical conductivity of the soil and should be pretty accurate.
