Do squirrels eat cheerios?

If I save the leftovers from my toddler's snacks (cheerios, goldfish, other crackers), can we feed them to the squirrels?

I am raising a baby squirrel at the moment. He is just starting to chew hard food. He seems particularly fond of Lucky Charms :) . Squirrels and rodents need to chew hard food to keep their teeth worn properly, but cereal is pretty hard these days, and I only give him the cereal for a treat. If I had some Cheerios, I am sure that he would think they were great. Corn, sunflower seeds and peanuts are good squirrel food too. If you get a squirrel who is tame, or brave enough to come up to you for a treat, hold the treat between the tips of your thumb and index fingers so that as he grabs the food with his teeth, his teeth will hit your fingernails rather than bite into your skin (an old man in a park showed this to me when I was a kid, and it works). The squirrel will not bite out of meanness, he is just in a hurry to get away. Have fun.

If the squirrels don't eat them, the birds surely will! But yeah, in my experience, squirrels will eat anything small and crispy you put outside for them. And it shouldn't hurt them, cheerios don't have much sugar in them.

We throw all kinds of stale cereal into the yard and it has never sat there for more than two days. The squirrels around here seem to eat anything.

Yes, they will eat them, and if you feed them too close to your house, then they try to come inside, or get inside through vents near your roof. They will then eat the wiring in your attic area and cause all sorts of problems.

Yes, they will but my favorite way to feed them is to out unsalted roast peanuts and watch them fight over them with the blue jays.
