Hi. Please can anyone help identify beetle type insects that are on my lavender plant, it's the size of a Ladybird but it's an Iridescent (Black ish) Metallic colour. Many thanks for any suggestions
From what you are describing, it sounds like it may be an adult "root weevil". A positive would be that you have scalloping on some of the edges of the leaves. These adult beetles come out at night and feed on the edges of the leaves and "scallop" them. During the daytime they hide on the ground around the base of the plants in leaf litter and mulch. The bad thing about these pesky insects is that they lay their eggs in the soil around the host plant and when they hatch, the larvae feed on the roots of the plant until they reach the adult instar. You get a double whammy here with this insect. A natural control would be to make sure that there is no spent leaves and debris around the plants trunk. A chemical approach would be to use a "systemic" pesticide on the foliage. Iam providing you a link with a pick for you to compare your findings..hope this answers your question....

Stick bugs have 6 long legs. it is in all probability some style of Phasmid or 'stick malicious program'. If it is front 2 legs seem as though a pair of hands then it is a mantis. If it is rear 2 legs look incredibly longer like a grasshopper's then perhaps a katydid or grasshopper. (Katydid- additionally frequently occurring as leafhopper) My wager is stick malicious program AKA a Phasmid.
