Question:
What type of mower could we use to cut down weeds in the mountains?

We live in a mountain area and don't have grass, but we have to cut down our weeds. We currently use a gas powered, hand-held weed eater, but our lot is so huge it takes hours. I'm interested in something similar to a mower, but could go over small rocks and go up steep hills.

Walk behind rough cut and brush mower. There is several manufactures of this type mower, with wide range in prices. Some models have cutting bar.

Most of the lawn equipment manufactures build walk behind sickle bar mowers. They can be self propelled, will cut anything up to one inch brush, are very stable on rough or steep ground and come in bar widths of 36 to 60 inches. Plus, they won't throw things at you like a rotary brush cutter. Check out Toro, Jari, John Deere, etc.

It can be difficult to find the right lawn mower for your garden, especially for hilly or uneven lawns. Most manufacturers tend to exaggerate the runtime of electric lawn mowers or they say a riding mower is needed when a self propelled lawn mower would do the job just fine. I found a great website with a nice (read: realistic) overview of what lawn mower someone can buy. I hope that helps.

You really need to grasp what it is to live on a mountain-(mountains). Instant gratification is a ploy straight out of the suburb playbook.Mountain living demands respect for nature at a much acellerated pace. You must learn how to see and calculate this wild kingdom at it's value-not at your's. Still, some grooming is possible and neccesary if done with nature-not against.

It is hard to say. It is very possible that it will grow back. The roots are quite big and deep in hydrangeas, so I would say probably it will. When I bought my house there were huge hydrangeas out front overgrown. I pulled them all out, and began planting other things. We had missed some of the root, and it grew back. As long as the root is in tact, it should be fine.
