Question:
Emergency extinguishing cap replacement for tiki torches?

It's not a tiki torch in the sense that it's on a pole, I have a "table top lamp display", which is built very much like a tiki torch - decorated metal container for fluid with a rope-like wick coming through a cap that screws on. (But I figured tiki torch users could also use this question)

Unfortunately it did not come with the snuffer cap tiki torches come with. I got it off the clearance shelf and didn't see a snuffer cap on the only other one they had, so I'm not sure if it was supposed to have one. Anyway I didn't think about it until I got it home. I've found suggestions on how to make one, but doing so would cost more than what I paid for the lamp ha ha.

I was wondering if anyone knew if I could use a glass shot glass instead (obviously cleaned out) or if anyone has any experience with these type of lanterns - if they can just be blown out like a candle would....

I know what type you are talking about. I don't see why a glass wouldn't work to put it out. Any sort of non-flammable thing you can cover the flame with to block off the air supply will put it out. You could probably use an empty food can as well. Just be careful that you use a pot holder or oven mitt so you don't burn yourself. Just as a suggestion you might want to add something heavy to the base of the torch, as I've experienced that these table top kind can be top-heavy when filled with fuel. Wouldn't want it to knock over and spill, or heaven forbid start a fire.

Large bottle cap with a cut clothes hanger poked through it, tied to the base.
