I saw a show on TV and they said just the opposite. There are several brands on the market and they may have different properties. You probably have to check each one out to find the ones that don't get hot.

We live in Washington state where the weather is mild in the summer time. We just replaced old wooden stairs with Trex Select in Winchester grey. They are on a south facing porch, so they do get direct sunlight most of the day. These get so hot that I cannot walk up them in bare feet. I can't imagine how hot they would get in a very hot environment. Also they radiate a great deal of heat. We won't be using this product again.

I have some in a very sunny area and it gets somewhat warm but havent been burnt, if the screws are not counter sunk properly they will be very hot
