you can get a liquid feed and weed which you water down as per instuctions on the lable, i have used this in the past, but found a granualar feed and weed much quicker acting and better costs about £10-00 but well worth it, i have three lawns which i treated with the granualar one and they are beautifuly green and never looked better..it's called EVERGREEN COMPLETE ALL IN ONE. and my lawns are now weed free.

There are many fertilisers that claim to be the best and most work very well .Consider though, are winter fertilisers really necessary , the lawn will be mostly dormant overwinter and its requirements low .Maybe some of these fertilisers are just a marketing ploy .

The best fertilisers for spring are ones that are high in nitrogen as these produce green leafy growth .

Assuming that weeds are not a problem an excellent and free fertiliser is your own or a friends urine .This should be mixed 1 cup urine into 1 watering can of water fitted with a rose and watered well onto lawn.

Being a liquid feed it will not kill weeds .It does not smell because of the low concentration and the rapid reaction of urea with the soil .Please try this at least on a small section of your lawn in spring it works fast 3 to 14 days .Forget other peoples uninformed prejudice also read the label of commercial fertilisers many contain urea .
