I have bought the largest manual pruner that is offered without a motor but it will only prune a branch up to 3 inches in diameter. What do I use to prune larger branches?

The easiest method to cut branches more than 2" in diameter is by using a long-handled tree pruner with a saw on the end of it. Fiskars makes one that had a pruner and saw all-in-one.

It is important to wear safety glasses while trimming branches and make sure you know where the branch will fall before starting the cut.

A coarse toothed saw meant for branch trimming. Go to a hardware store, nursery supply, or home center.

You answered your own question....

Time for the motor... they make a pole saw with chain saw on the end.
